Present Members

Meredith Cohen
Principal Investigator
Meredith holds a Ph.D. in medieval art and architecture from Columbia University and is an associate professor in the Department of the History of Art at UCLA. She specializes in the architecture of medieval France and has a particular focus on medieval Paris. Paris Past and Present derives from a decade of research on the lost monuments of the medieval city, which provides the evidence for our reconstructions.
Kristine Tanton
Research Project Manager
Kristine is the research project manager and 3D modeler for Paris: Past and Present. She specializes in medieval art and architecture, specifically Romanesque sculpture and architecture and received her Ph.D. from the University of Southern California in May 2013. Her research interests lie in the visual, material, and religious culture of the High Middle Ages, particularly in France from the tenth through the twelfth centuries. In an earlier career, Kristine was an art director and graphic designer on print and multimedia projects. She is excited to bring her areas of expertise together on this project.
Meg Bernstein
GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT & 3D MODELER (INAUGURAL TEAM MEMBER)
Meg is a PhD student in UCLA’s Art History department; her specialty is gothic architecture, particularly in England and France. Meg has been working on Paris: Past & Present since the beginning of the project in the spring of 2014. Though she is trained on Vectorworks, she has primarily provided research support for the modelers. Moving forward, she will also work on documentation and dissemination.
Gabriela Chitwood
Undergraduate Research Assistant & 3D Modeler
Gabriela is a third-year Art History student and joined the project in November 2014. She has assisted in creating and testing tutorials for the Digital Gothic course in Spring 2015 and for future members of the team. She is excited to grow her knowledge and understanding of Gothic Architecture and its modeling on Vectorworks.
Shree Dhamija
Undergraduate Research Assistant & 3D Modeler
Shree is a senior studying Computer Science, whose interests include software development, virtual reality, and art history. With his software development expertise, Shree is developing a virtual reality app for the project.
Mark Gallagher
GRADUATE RESEARCH AND INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY CONSULTANT (RITC)
Mark is a doctoral candidate in the UCLA English Department. He is writing a dissertation on optimism and the transcendental affects of Ralph Waldo Emerson, Margaret Fuller, and Henry David Thoreau. For the project, Mark has focused on photogrammetry of lithic evidence and 3D modeling.
Anna Dzwoniarek
Undergraduate Research Assistant & 3D Modeler
Anna is a third-year art history student and joined the project in October 2016. She has worked on developing new tutorials for the Digital Gothic class and is currently working on the reconstruction of the cloister of Saint-Germain des Prés.
Saif Radi
Undergraduate Research Assistant & 3D Modeler
Saif is third-year undergraduate studying Art History and Middle Eastern Studies. He took Digital Gothic during the Winter 2017 and his team’s project, a reconstruction of the church at Sainte-Catherine du Val des Écoliers, is included on the Paris Past and Present website. Saif joined the team as a researcher in Spring of 2017 and is currently researching L'Église Sainte-Marie du Temple.
Arianna Rivera
Undergraduate Research Assistant & 3D Modeler
Arianna is a fourth-year art history major. She joined the team in Spring 2017 after taking Prof. Cohen’s Digital Gothic course in Winter 2017. Arianna brings her interest in architecture and information organization structures to her research work on the team. She is gathering research and bibliographic data for the project’s database.
Clara Shim
POST-BACCALAUREATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT & 3D MODELER
Clara recently graduated from the architecture program. She began working on the project through the Digital Gothic course in Spring of 2015 and officially joined the team in Fall of 2015. She is continuing to work on a reconstruction of the Palais de la Cité, mainly focusing on the Galerie des Merciers.
Allie Wang
Undergraduate Research Assistant & 3D Modeler
Allie joined the team in Fall 2016 after completing the Digital Gothic course in Spring 2016. In addition to her 3D modeling skills, Allie has helped with animations for the Lady Chapel.
Will Wharton
Undergraduate Research Assistant & 3D Modeler
Will is a third-year Design Media Arts student. Will is interested in integrating his expertise in 3D modeling and motion graphics, which have resulted in beautiful animations for the project.
Mingjia Yang
Undergraduate Research Assistant & 3D Modeler
Mingjia joined the team in Fall 2016 after completing the Digital Gothic course in Spring 2016. He will begin the architecture program at UCLA in Fall 2017. Mingjia excels at 3D modeling and is working on a reconstruction of the church of Sainte-Marie du Temple.
