Present Members

Meredith Cohen
Principal Investigator
Meredith holds a Ph.D. in medieval art and architecture from Columbia University and is an associate professor in the Department of the History of Art at UCLA. She specializes in the architecture of medieval France and has a particular focus on medieval Paris. Paris Past and Present derives from a decade of research on the lost monuments of the medieval city, which provides the evidence for our reconstructions.
Kristine Tanton
Research Project Manager
Kristine is the research project manager and 3D modeler for Paris: Past and Present. She specializes in medieval art and architecture, specifically Romanesque sculpture and architecture and received her Ph.D. from the University of Southern California in May 2013. Her research interests lie in the visual, material, and religious culture of the High Middle Ages, particularly in France from the tenth through the twelfth centuries. In an earlier career, Kristine was an art director and graphic designer on print and multimedia projects. She is excited to bring her areas of expertise together on this project.
Meg Bernstein
GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT & 3D MODELER (INAUGURAL TEAM MEMBER)
Meg is a PhD student in UCLA’s Art History department; her specialty is gothic architecture, particularly in England and France. Meg has been working on Paris: Past & Present since the beginning of the project in the spring of 2014. Though she is trained on Vectorworks, she has primarily provided research support for the modelers. Moving forward, she will also work on documentation and dissemination.
Alan Carrillo
Undergraduate Research Assistant & 3D Modeler
Alan Carrillo is a fourth year undergraduate Art History major. He worked as the primary 3D modeler on the Louvre reconstruction project for the Digital Gothic course (2016), and is currently a research assistant and 3D modeler for the church of Saint-Jacques-de-la-Boucherie within the Paris Past and Present research project. He plans to pursue a career in Medieval Art and Architectural History.
Anna Dzwoniarek
Undergraduate Research Assistant & 3D Modeler
Anna is a third-year art history student and joined the project in October 2016. She has worked on developing new tutorials for the Digital Gothic class and is currently working on the reconstruction of the cloister of Saint-Germain des Prés.
Sarah El Massry
Undergraduate Research Assistant & 3D Modeler
Sarah El Massry is a second year undergraduate majoring in Art History and Study of Religion. She loves medvieal art and architecture and worked to recreate parts of Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Chartres during the Fall 2017 quarter. Upon joining the team in the winter of 2018 she will be digitally reconstructing the Tower of Saint-Jacques.
Harman Kaur
Undergraduate Research Assistant & 3D Modeler
Harman Kaur is a third-year undergraduate majoring in Applied Mathematics. She is very passionate and interested in architecture and is working towards becoming an architect herself in the near future. After taking Gothic Architecture and History during Fall 2017 quarter, she wants to continue learning more, while strengthening her skills in digital reconstruction. As a new team member starting in Winter 2018, she will help complete the Quinze-Vingts along with the website.
Saif Radi
Undergraduate Research Assistant & 3D Modeler
Saif is third-year undergraduate studying Art History and Middle Eastern Studies. He took Digital Gothic during the Winter 2017 and his team’s project, a reconstruction of the church at Sainte-Catherine du Val des Écoliers, is included on the Paris Past and Present website. Saif joined the team as a researcher in Spring of 2017 and is currently researching L'Église Sainte-Marie du Temple.
Hannah Maryan Thomson
Undergraduate Research Assistant & 3D Modeler
Hannah is in her third year of graduate school in UCLA’s Art History department. Her research focuses on the architecture and urbanism of medieval Spain. She recently completed her master’s thesis on the fourteenth-century refectory in Pamplona. Her first project for Paris: Past & Present was part of the digital reconstruction team for the Augustinians church. Currently she is advising on the Saint- Jacques de la Boucherie project and has assisted in photo archival research of medieval Parisian buildings.
Will Wharton
Undergraduate Research Assistant & 3D Modeler
Will is a third-year Design Media Arts student. Will is interested in integrating his expertise in 3D modeling and motion graphics, which have resulted in beautiful animations for the project.
Mingjia Yang
Undergraduate Research Assistant & 3D Modeler
Mingjia joined the team in Fall 2016 after completing the Digital Gothic course in Spring 2016. He will begin the architecture program at UCLA in Fall 2017. Mingjia excels at 3D modeling and is working on a reconstruction of the church of Sainte-Marie du Temple.
